Please refer to each course page for specific course registration information.
Courses that upgrade qualifications attract CPD points with relevant industry bodies and are registered where required.
It is generally accepted that you need to complete a minimum number of hours of formal training to obtain a qualification that entitles you to apply for insurance to teach. Formal training consists of teacher training courses that are offered with the intention to provide a qualification. For example, undertaking 200 hours of yoga classes does not qualify you as a yoga teacher for insurance purposes.
It is generally accepted that in order to obtain insurance you need to complete a minimum of:
- 60hrs of training for teaching Pilates
- 110hrs of training for teaching meditation
- 60hrs of training for teaching barre
- 200hrs of training for teaching yoga
- No widely accepted minimum for breathwork
Zama Institute training programs offer formal training with at least the minimum number of hours required to ensure you can obtain insurance to teach. There are no government regulatory bodies for any of these professions in Australia or around the world. Industry associations serve as membership bodies that may or may not set standards for membership however membership with these is not required to be qualified to teach. Our courses are registered with industry associations such as Yoga Australia, Meditation Australia and Physical Activity Australia.
Yes, definitely! Our courses meet at least the minimum amount of training required to obtain insurance to teach almost everywhere in the world. Most insurers provide insurance that covers you to teach everywhere in the world, except for the USA and Canada. If you wish to obtain insurance to teach in the United States or Canada, insurance companies have different stipulations for the USA & Canada based on the laws in those countries, where you must be a resident to obtain insurance directly with an American or Canadian insurance company. However, residents of the USA and Canada who graduate from a Zama Institute course are able to purchase insurance cover to teach in the USA and Canada. If you are not a resident but are working in the USA or Canada, you may be covered by your employer's insurance. Each case is different, so just check with your insurer and or employer.
There is no set schedule with regards to reading the required texts alongside the course work and this is left up to the autonomy of each student, to progress through all content in a way that best suits you.
As the course is set out in topic-specific modules, for example in our 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course with Module 4 encompassing the Anatomy and Physiology section of the training, this can result in a heavy study-load if you work through Module 4 all at once. The Yoga Anatomy text correlates mainly to this module, so if you are methodically progressing through the course Modules in order, it will benefit you to also read the full Yoga Anatomy text throughout Module 4.
Another way of approaching the coursework is to tackle one or two headings from each Module at a time (in conjunction with reading the relevant texts) and then moving to another Module topic, so that you are reviewing a range of different topics for a more comprehensive learning experience.
It really depends on how you best learn - whether you prefer to dive deep into one topic at a time or absorbing smaller, more manageable pieces of information across the scope of the course.
The minimum number of student participants per class is just 1 student. You can definitely teach one on one classes and include these in your Teaching Journal, however, we do recommend using this teacher training to get experience with teaching an array of different sized classes if possible, as these all come with their own challenges and different focal requirements.
Please also ensure you are taking a photo of at least one student actively participating in your class (get their permission prior to the class) for your journal. You don't need to show their faces.
Additional costs to consider, that are not included in our course fees, include (but are not limited to) those associated with purchasing the required texts, any props necessary for your own practice and teaching assessments, studio fees or subscription fees for any classes you choose to participate in to complete your practice journal, etc.
Yes the prices on our website are in Australian dollars (AUD).
Extensions beyond your 12 month course access period are available for a fee. This fee can be waived in some cases with the presentation of a medical certificate for a long suffering illness (one month or more) or other extenuating circumstances.
You have 12 months to complete your course. You may finish earlier if you have the time available to do so. Each course has a certain number of hours to complete prior to graduation. This is a good guide as to how much time you need to allocate on a daily/weekly/monthly (how ever you choose to) basis to complete your course within 12 months. Check each course page for the number of hours each course requires.
You can complete up to 100% of your self-practice hours online using your course videos or other online content. You can complete up to 20% of your teaching practice hours via an online live streaming service. However, if you are in a remote area with little interaction with other people, please write to us and we can help support you with your teaching hours.
Each course has a prop list which details what you need to complete the training. This is available on the course page of the website.
The books required and recommended for the courses are usually readily available from online retailers. Simply Google the name and author of each book to find your preferred store. You can try Amazon, Dymocks online, eBay and Booktopia.
Each class needs to have at least 1 student. If you are having trouble finding people to participate in your classes, we recommend seeking volunteers by posting to your local community social media pages, approaching local schools and community groups, asking your local gym and or studio if you can teach a free class to their students, putting up flyers on local noticeboards offering classes and asking friends and family to ask their wider network to volunteer to participate. You may need to go to them.
You are required to obtain a minimum 75 per cent success rate to pass each quiz. Please note that you can attempt each quiz as many times necessary to achieve this result. Quizzes are not timed they just need to be completed prior to graduation.
