Training teachers since 2013.
The Zama Institute was built on a simple belief — that high-quality, professionally registered teacher training should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Over a decade on, that belief still shapes everything we do.
Where it all began
Nicole Gorry started her first Zama Yoga classes in halls around Brisbane in 2012, and quickly grew into fully operating studios in both Brisbane and Toowoomba. From the beginning, the studios attracted students who wanted more than a weekly class – people drawn to the philosophy, the depth, the transformation that serious yoga practice offers. It didn’t take long before those students started asking the question: how do I become a teacher?
In 2013, Nicole co-founded the Yoga & Integrative Medicine Institute (YIMI) and began delivering structured, accredited teacher training programs. The response was immediate. Students came not just from Brisbane and Toowoomba, but from across Australia and increasingly from overseas. It became clear that the model of limiting training to a physical studio was holding Zama back from offering students access to the courses they were asking for.
The move to a fully online model was a natural evolution. By delivering training online, Zama could reach the yoga teacher in rural Queensland who couldn’t travel to Brisbane, the Pilates enthusiast in New Zealand who had no access to accredited local training, and the working parent who needed to study around a demanding schedule. The qualification, the enthusiasm, the support – all online.
Today, Zama Institute offers registered and accredited teacher training across yoga, Pilates, barre, meditation, breathwork and workplace wellbeing — all fully online, all self-paced, and all backed by over a decade of experience in the field.
