Saturday 2nd May was international Pilates Day. To celebrate, we thought we’d highlight the fact that Zama’s timetable offers even more than yoga – we also run Pilates, zamalates and barre classes! We want everyone to be able to experience the fun of these classes, so for the month of May you can bring a friend for free* to any Pilates, barre or zamalates class!
These classes work in conjunction with your yoga practice by isolating certain muscles of the body to build their strength, and are very beginner-friendly, so come along for a try!
Pilates classes are held on Mondays at 9:30am at our Toowoomba studio.
Pilates trains the body by using slow controlled movements to isolate a particular muscle, or group of muscles, to strengthen those muscles. This helps to retrain the body to move in the way it was designed. Pilates is particularly good at sculpting and toning areas of the body such as the stomach, thighs and buttocks, and works on strengthening the core muscles of the body’s trunk to provide greater support to the spine and improve posture. Practising Pilates regularly helps to counteract poor posture, by building strength in weak muscles and lengthening and stretching tight muscles. By building greater strength and stability throughout the muscles of the body will also contribute to developing a stronger yoga practice.
Zamalates classes are held at our Toowong studio on Monday nights at 7:40pm and Wednesday mornings at 9:30am.
Zamalates is a combination of Pilates and yoga – during a class you will practice the muscle strengthening practice of Pilates, then stretch it out with some counter-acting yoga poses to achieve a balance within the workout. These classes will feature mat exercises, some standing movements and the use of props such as balls, resistance bands and small weights, to assist with toning the body – as well as some bouncy tunes!
Zama Yoga Toowoomba runs barre beats classes on Monday nights at 6:45pm and Wednesday nights at 5:30pm.
Zama Yoga Toowong runs barre beats on Thursday nights at 7:40pm and Fridays 4:10pm, and barre bare is held on Saturdays at 9:30am and Sunday mornings at 8:15am.
Barre classes are an ultimate unique workout – a fusion of ballet exercises, yoga, and Pilates – and a whole bundle of fun! For the majority of the class, you will be standing at the ballet barre, which can be ideal for those who experience wrist pain and need some relief. Although barre classes were designed by a professional ballet dancer, no dancing experience is required, and barre offers you a total body workout that will tone and sculpt your body and encourage it to develop lean, long, ballerina-style muscles!
