Yoga props are a wonderful way to support and deepen your practice of yoga. Props are not only a tool for enabling you to practice a pose you otherwise may not have been able to do, or to simply better align a pose. They are also a tool for supporting the body to open and release without holding or creating tension. Using props in your practice of yoga helps the body enter a deep state of relaxation as they enable the body to completely surrender.

Restorative yoga has been proven to benefit a number of physical and mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, chronic back pain and stress-related illness.

Restorative yoga also helps manage weight loss, obesity and related illness such as diabetes by regulating the metabolism and hormonal systems of the body. To find out more, take a look at this Yoga Journal article.

This master class will involve the use of bolsters, blocks, straps and yoga swings, so you will get to experience how these props support your body.

You will also practice Yoga Nidra, which is Yogic Sleep where the body enters a state of relaxation similar to sleep but you remain awake. The brain activity experienced during 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra has been shown to mimic the same brain activity over 3 hours of sleep.

“People feel they are relaxing when they collapse in an easy chair with a cup of coffee, a drink or a cigarette, and read a newspaper or switch on the television. But this will never suffice as a scientific definition of relaxation. These are only sensory diversions. True relaxation is actually an experience far beyond all this. For absolute relaxation you must remain aware. This is Yoga Nidra, the state of dynamic sleep.” – Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Join us on Saturday 5 October at 4pm for 90 minutes to reap the wonderful benefits of this practice! Book here now
