Now, let’s have a look at the wonderful world of Barre in more detail.

What exactly is Barre?

Excellent question.

Barre is a relatively new exercise program that combines movements from ballet conditioning, Pilates, and yoga.

In a Barre class, props are your best friend. Expect to work with a barre (obviously), as well as small hand weights, balls, and resistance straps to activate muscles you didn’t even know you had.

The exercises that constitute a Barre class Brisbane and Toowoomba include isometric strength training – that is, staying still while you contract a targeted set of muscles – and reps of highly-specified movements. We often throw in some deep stretches to improve flexibility and release tension.

The result? A full body workout that boosts your metabolism, tones and lengthens your muscles, and gives you that blissful post-exercise feeling. Imagine all that alongside some killer beats, and you’ve got an idea of Zama’s popular Barre classes.

The benefits of Barre classes Brisbane

Want an exercise program that ticks all the boxes? Barre classes are for you.

There are so many benefits that come with attending Barre classes regularly – just ask our Zamis! Let’s take a look at a few of these benefits.

1. Barre classes work the whole body from top to bottom

Barre is not a one-dimensional workout – it’s full body conditioning. Expect to feel the burn from top to bottom as you move and groove your way through our fun-filled classes. Barre is also a great supplementary exercise class for those of you who jog, cycle, or lift weights. Barre can help bring balance and harmony back into your body.

2. Barre classes strengthen and lengthen your muscles

Ever admired the long, strong muscles of a ballerina? Barre classes can help you achieve an elegant yet strong frame. Using props, Barre exercises target specific muscles groups, and work them quickly and intensely. Most movements use fast, small-range motions to take you to your limit. No pain, no gain – right?

3. Barre classes tone and sculpt your body

Barre is both a cardio workout, and a weight-bearing workout. This means you’ll be burning fat and boosting your metabolism as you strengthen your muscles. The result is tone and definition. Give Barre a go, and watch your body transform.

4. Barre classes get your heart pumping

There’s no shortage of evidence proving that getting your heart racing at an aerobic level does wonders for your health. Trust us when we tell you, you’ll definitely be huffing and puffing during our Barre classes.

5. Barre classes allow you to have fun and let loose

Men and women, the young and the old, no matter who you are, Barre classes are the ultimate opportunity to set your inner ballerina free! Come alone or bring your friends, and be prepared to dance and laugh your way through a fantastic, full-body workout. You won’t even notice your muscles burning… Well, maybe a little!

6. Barre classes are effective stress relievers

Exercise is a fantastic way to relieve stress, so leave your to-do lists, your deadlines, and your frustrations at the door.

7. Barre classes will improve your posture

Reading this while slumped in an office chair? Keep reading! Barre classes do wonders for your posture, as we turn on and strengthen through the core. You’ll be prancing around like a seasoned ballerina in no time!

What to expect at your first Barre class

So, you’re planning on joining a Barre class at Zama. Fantastic!

It’s only natural to feel a little apprehensive about trying something new for the first time. We are here to answer any questions and ease any worries you might have. Please let us know if you have any serious concerns, injuries, or burning questions you’d like answered. You can speak to us in the studio, or phone us on the numbers listed at the bottom of this page. We’d be more than happy to help.

Before you come into the studio, here’s a quick run-down of what you can expect at a Barre class. Do keep in mind that our teachers add their own personal twist to each class, so you’ll never work through the same routine twice. Remember, variety is the spice of life!

  • First things first, we’ll crank up the beats, find a place along the barre, and warm up our bodies. Think upper-body exercises with or without hand weights that work into the triceps and biceps.
  • Then, we’ll move into the larger upper-body muscles, such as the back, chest, and core. We will open, strengthen, and continue to get our hearts pumping.
  • Now, the lower body. This is where the barre, balls, and resistance straps come in handy. We’ll go through a number of lower-body exercises that strengthen the calves, thighs, and glutes. Remember to keep your core turned on the whole time.
  • Finally, we will stretch and relieve any left-over tension, as we cool down and finish up the class.

And that’s it! By this stage you will feel the burn. Everywhere. And it will feel AMAZING.
