“Meditation is the only intentional, systematic human activity which at bottom is about not trying to improve yourself or get anywhere else, but simply to realise where you already are.”

Our Expanding 21 Day Challenge isn't only about expanding the body through asana but also expanding the breath and the mind, so we're making Meditation (Dhyana) our Pose of the Month for March. Meditation is the seventh limb of Yoga and we practice asana, pranayama and concentration to get the body prepared to be able to sit in stillness for meditation.

Somehow we've ended up in a culture of distress where sleep is a luxury, coffee is a necessity, and FOMO is real. Living in this place of apprehension and disconnection has unfortunately become the norm, but a way to bring you back to the present and find inner calm and peace is with a meditation practice.

We suggest that if you're new to a meditation practice to begin with just 2 minutes focusing on the feeling of the breath. Whenever your thoughts start to wander, in a loving way say to yourself "thinking" and see if you can come back to the sensation of the breath.

There's plenty of other meditation techniques like mantra meditation, walking meditation, mindfulness meditation, focused meditation on an object or sound, and guided meditation. We love a progressive relaxation meditation that gets you ready for a good night's sleep. Our teacher Kate has a beautiful deep sleep mind & body relaxation before bed meditation you can listen to on Insight Timer.
