green smoothie goodness

Green smoothies are delicious and so healthy. Blending the ingredients breaks up the fruit and vegetables, which allows the nutrients to be absorbed faster into the body. The fibre from the fruit and vegies means you’re consuming whole foods (rather than juicing it away), and the Chia seeds are a complete protein. What more could you want?!

  • 1 to 2 cups of greens (baby spinach leaves, kale, lettuce, watercress – any greens you like)
  • half an avocado, cut into chunks
  • 1 medium sized banana, cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup water
  • small handful of ice
  • tbsp chia seeds ( pre-soaked in 2 tbsp water if you prefer)

Put it all in a blender or bar mix container and blend til all ingredients are broken down and it’s at your desired consistency. You can add fresh apple juice, strawberries and any other whole or juiced fruits you like (pineapple is yummy), yoghurt and shredded coconut or coconut water.  DO watch your ice intake with the smoothies – cold food can put out your “digestive fire”, slowing your digestion and creating imbalance, so don’t over do it. For thickness, you could add psyllium husks instead of ice.
